Ocean Chinese Seafood, Arlington, Texas

Finding a good chinese restaurant is not always an easy thing to do, especially when you have a style in mind and are looking for somewhere that can match it.  Growing up near the gulf coast around lots of Vietnamese run chinese places there is a certian feel you get to the food that's hard to immitate when you're trying to please a bunch of peolpe who don't know what it's suppoed to taste like in the first place.

I'd been looking for a good mu shu and kept getting these odd sauces that just weren't what I was used to. I had seen this place and had never thought to go since the outside wasn't in the best of shape.  They have since remodeled and it looks better but the shopping center it's in front of hasn't kept up.  One of my friends said he loved the place and that I should give it a try.

It's not the kind of place you take a first date unless they particularly like the place to begin with.  Inside there are unused buffet services sitting on one side of the restaurant and some of the ceiling tiles are water damaged.  The tables sometimes wobble and the flooring is a little worn.  When everything was new it was probably wonderful but time trudges by.

Don't let this stop you. None of this is to say it's dirty by any means.  They keep what they have neat and clean.  Nothing is going to fall over while you're sitting there eating.  If they put up a few screens to section off areas it would have the feel of an old chinese restaurant minus the smoke.  The food isn't expensive and they serve it like most chinese restaurants do with a main serving tray and individual plates.  One meal can feed 2 to 4 people depending on the people of course.  As the name implies they have a wide variety of seafood dishes but they also have some of the favorites, like mu shu as well as General Tso's and orange chicken.  They aren't your usual chinese restaurant in the DFW area though and everything is at least a little different.  the best way to approach it is to bring some friends and get a few options to share and see.  Everyone is bound to find something they like that way.

As far as parking goes there has never been a problem and it's in fair condition.  I have never had to wait for a table but it does get a little busy in the evenings.  They keep everything as clean as can be expected considering the location.  The staff is friendly and helpful.

Entrees are in the ten dollar range and can usually feed at least two although I suggest getting wontons or eggrolls to go with the meal. Still in all getting fed for under twenty dollers for a couple.

Overall a nice meal but don't go for the atmosphere.  Takeout is a good option.
